UNFPA is the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency. Our mission is to deliver a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every clidbirth is safe and every young person’s potential is fulfilled.
UNFPA works to achieve the three zeros by 2030: zero unmet need for contraception; zero preventable maternal deaths; and zero gender-based violence and harmful practices such as child marriage and female genital mutulation.
The UNFPA strategic plan 2018-2021 reaffirms the objectives of universal access to sexual and reproductive health and reproductive rights under the principles of Leaving No On Behind and Reaching the Furthest Behind. UNFPA is present in more than 150 countries and centers its work in adolescents, youth and women, indigenous populations, populations of African descent, persons with disabilities, migrants and refugees as these groups face higher risk of inequalities in exercising their sexual and reproductive health rights.
The Strategic Plan 2018-2021 is aligned with the Program of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD, 1994), the Montevideo Consensus on Population and Development (2013) and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
